What We've Fixed at SharedEasy: An Honest Incident History

We've housed more than 5,000 residents since 2019. We got some things wrong along the way. Here's what happened and what's different now, with dates, so you can hold us to it.

01

Room assignment and roommate transparency

What happened

In our early years, residents didn't always know their exact room before move-in, and roommate information wasn't transparent enough. Public reporting in 2022 called this out, and it was fair.

What we changed

Every house now has a virtual tour or video tour. We built a room database so you see the exact room you are signing for, not a lookalike. In-person house tours are available on request. Every roommate profile is a real person, with everything we can share within privacy limits.

Current status

Resolved as of March 2023

Verify it yourself: watch the virtual tour, request a house tour, and see your exact room before you sign anything.

02

Common-area cameras

What happened

Some houses had cameras in shared areas. They were installed at residents' request, footage was deleted from the cloud within one week, and they were used a handful of times to resolve residents' complaints about incidents in shared spaces. Bedrooms and bathrooms, never.

What we changed

We removed them. Today, cameras are an option only when every resident in the apartment requests them in writing. If one person declines, there are no cameras.

Current status

Resolved as of April 2026

An independent camera audit was completed in July 2026. The written-consent policy is part of the house rules.

03

Lease agreement

What happened

Early on, we used membership-agreement language in our contracts. It wasn't the right instrument for residential housing.

What we changed

Every resident now signs a standardized New York residential lease, reviewed by an independent law firm. Residents are protected by the law and by the lease itself, not by our goodwill.

Current status

Resolved as of January 2024

Every resident can request and read the full lease agreement before any payment, before any signature, and before any commitment.

04

The 2021 bedbug incident

What happened

In 2021, bedbugs were reported in one of our houses.

What we changed

We replaced every bed and mattress in that house and brought in professional extermination, with proper disposal of everything removed.

Current status

No recurrence in more than three years

That house has had no recurrence in more than three years. No New York operator can promise zero bedbugs, so judge us on response. Our standing protocol: new furniture in every home we open, full preparation including disinfection before every opening, and the 48-hour habitability commitment on the main page covers any future report.

Specific changes. Not promises.

Beyond the incidents above, we rebuilt the operational systems that should have been there from the start. In plain language, with no fine print.

01

24-Hour Move-In SLA

Your room is ready within 24 hours of your check-in date. Bed made, key works, WiFi active. A non-negotiable standard, not a best-effort goal.

02

A Community Manager in your home

Every home has a dedicated manager who lives in or near the building and handles day-to-day issues. Not a support queue, a real person who is there.

03

Deposit returned in 14 days

Your deposit comes back within 14 days of move-out, itemized, processed Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. The law requires it, your lease guarantees it, and if we're late, 100% comes back.

04

One price. Nothing else.

Rent, utilities, WiFi, weekly cleaning, and NYC gym access all included. No broker fee, no application fee, no separate bills. One number is what you pay.

05

No US credit history required

Built for people arriving in a new country. Instead of paperwork we use the Trust Interview, a live conversation to assess fit. No SSN required.
